A driver failed to negotiate a turn on U.S. Highway 395 Monday, rolled down an embankment and died, Oregon State Police say.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at milepost 53.1 in Umatilla County just before 3 p.m., troopers say.

The 62-year-old driver, identified as Alexander Ionita, of Salem, was traveling north on the highway in a black 2016 Dodge Ram.

Ionita failed to negotiate a left-hand turn and rolled into the Camas Creek, OSP says.

Ionita was wearing a seatbelt at the time crash, troopers say, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
